    Helmets

Whether you ride on the road or off road, a cycling helmet is an essential part of your riding attire. At Velo Bikes we offer a selection of helmets for all ages and all budgets.

Whilst you can buy one helmet for road cycling and mountain biking, there some differences between the two.
Mountain bike helmets tend to have slightly fuller coverage at the back of the head and a peak or sun visor at the front.  Road bike helmets tend to be more vented with no peak.

The biggest progression in helmet technology and design in recent years is the introduction of M.I.P.S. - (Multi-Directional.Impact. Protection System).  MIPS sets a new standard in helmet safety; it has been developed by brain surgeons and scientists to reduce rotational forces on the brain caused by angled impacts to the head.

The most important thing to consider when buying any helmet is fit. The helmet should be adjusted so that it fits securely, without feeling clamped to the head, and shouldn't wobble when you shake your head from side to side.  Make sure the adjuster is somewhere in the middle of it's range so there is room for a skull cap in winter.
