    Chainrings & Guides

Chainrings are a vital part of the drivetrain; they allow power transfer from your pedals through to your cassette. Many mountain bikes now have only one chainring, combined with an 11 speed cassette, whilst road bikes generally have two (or sometimes three) chainrings. The number of teeth on your chainring will determine your speed of pedalling.

A chain guide is designed to prevent your chain from jumping off the chainrings; they are particularly useful if you ride on rough terrain, or have a single chainring.

Velo Bikes have a range of components from Hope, Raceface, Shimano, Sram, E-thirteen and MRP, so whatever you're after, we can offer you the advice and the parts you need, and will happily fit them for you in our workshop.

Dynamic Chain Engagement (DCE) is used to hold the chain and help prevent chain jump out. This is achieved by using a broader and taller tooth profile in conjunction with a special hooked leading edge and alternate profiled tooth shaping.
